Earlier this week, the Walker County Development Authority authorized an agreement between the county and Roper Corporation for an EDGE Grant through the Georgia Department of Community Affairs.  The purpose of the grant is to increase capacity and to encourage economic development in the state.

EDGE grants, which stands for Encouraging Development, Growth, and Expansion, provide small businesses access to capital that might not be available to them.

The money from the grant will be used to help Roper purchase new equipment.  Roper already has building expansion underway but to receive the incentive money, the company must meet certain benchmarks at specific intervals. One is that Roper has committed to adding 396-398 new employees at the factory in LaFayette.
