Walker County, Georgia, is set to experience a significant economic uplift with the announcement of over 1,230 new jobs stemming from major expansion projects by two industrial giants: Pilgrim’s Poultry Plant and Roper by GE Appliances, both located in LaFayette. These multi-million dollar investments are expected to significantly bolster the local job market and economy.

Pilgrim’s, one of the world’s leading food companies, is driving a substantial portion of this growth, planning to create more than 630 new jobs with the construction of a new, multi-phase prepared foods facility in LaFayette. This significant investment in Walker County is part of a broader $400 million expansion of Pilgrim’s footprint in Georgia, an initiative previously announced by Governor Brian P. Kemp late last month.

Adding to the economic momentum, Roper by GE Appliances recently completed a major expansion at its LaFayette plant, which added more than 600 new jobs upon its completion in June 2025. This latest phase involved a substantial $180 million investment. This follows a prior $118 million investment in December 2021, which also generated 600 jobs, bringing the total impact from Roper’s recent strategic initiatives to 1,200 additional positions. The Roper expansion is part of a larger strategic vision by GE Appliances, which, on Thursday of this week, unveiled a multi-billion dollar investment aimed at significantly expanding and modernizing its U.S. manufacturing operations, while simultaneously repatriating production of key appliances from China and Mexico.

Combined, these two powerhouse projects are set to inject over 1,230 new employment opportunities into Walker County. The influx of jobs is expected to have a ripple effect, stimulating local businesses, increasing consumer spending, and attracting further investment to the region, marking a period of substantial growth for the North Georgia community.
