WALKER COUNTY’S MAGISTRATE COURT JUDGE IS STEPPING DOWN IN RETIREMENT, AFTER 32 YEARS OF SERVICE.  JERRY DAY STARTED AS "JUSTICE OF THE PEACE" IN 1979.

THAT OFFICE WAS CHANGED BY THE LEGISLATURE TO MAGISTRATE COURT IN 1983.

DAY’S REPLACEMENT IS HIS LONG-TIME ASSISTANT, SHELIA THOMPSON.   SHE WAS APPOINTED TO THE POST BY THE LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN JUDICIAL CIRCUIT.   THOMPSON STARTED OUT AS DAY’S SECRETARY IN 1979… THEN BECAME THE ASSISTANT MAGISTRATE.

DAY HAS AGREED TO WORK PART-TIME IN THE JUDGE’S CHAIR… BUT SAYS HE’S LOOKING FORWARD TO MORE TIME SPENT ON HIS MOTORCYCLE AND FISHING.

HE SAID "I APPRECIATE THE PEOPLE FOR LETTING ME SERVE ALL THESE YEARS… THE PEOPLE OF WALKER COUNTY HAVE BEEN SO GOOD TO ME."
