Warm weather prevented any kind of hopes for a white Christmas this year, and it looks like temperatures will remain above average as we ring in the New Year.

The last time Chattooga County saw a white Christmas was in 2010.  But this year, temperatures remained in the upper 60’s across Northwest Georgia and Northeast Alabama for the Christmas Holiday.

A line of storms is expected to develop today and tomorrow and will be approaching our area by Wednesday.  Forecasters in Alabama say that central-Alabama could see some potentially severe weather mid-week.  By the time the storms make their way to our area, they are expected to lose some of their potency, but we could still see thunderstorms on Wednesday.

On Sunday, the National Weather Service in Peachtree City, Georgia said:

There is a slight chance of thunderstorms Wednesday across north Georgia and across both north and central Georgia on Thursday. Primary threats are heavy rain, strong, gusty winds and occasional lightning.

Looking forward to the New Year’s Holiday weekend, showers and thunderstorms are in the forecast through New Year’s Day.  Temperatures will remain in the upper 60’s to low 70’s for highs and lows will be in the 50’s.
