Despite the fact that the overwhelming majority of Chattooga County voters voted to send Herschel Walker to the U.S. Senate, the race between Walker and incumbent Democrat Raphael Warnock is headed for a runoff election.

Because of a third-part Libertarian candidate, neither Walker nor Warnock secured 50% of the vote on Tuesday.

In Chattooga County, Walker received 5,977 votes to Warnock’s 1,512 votes.  Despite, Warnock’s poor showing in Chattooga County, he did receive more votes than other statewide Democrats on the ballot like gubernatorial candidate Stacy Abrams, who only garnered 1,191 votes.

On Wednesday afternoon, Georgia Secretary of state Brad Raffensperger confirmed the runoff election between Warnock and Walker and said, “Ballots are being built as we speak, and counties are making preparations.”

Voters will return to the polls on December 6th to vote in the runoff election.
