The Summerville City Water system took a serious hit from the flooding on Sunday morning.  Damage at the city’s water treatment facilities has led to water outages for some city water customers, and some are out of water all together.  The situation is not good and Summerville officials say that the water issue may last for “days”. 

WZQZ news spoke with Terry Tinnie, Summerville Public Works Director, who said that the boil water order is in place until further notice.  That boil water order not only affects City of Summerville customers, but also the City of Menlo water customers.  Jill Neal, Menlo City Clerk, told WZQZ News on Sunday that Menlo water customers need to boil there water as well until the boil water order is lifted by the Summerville water system.

We asked Mr. Tinnie how long the problem could go on, and Tinnie responded “days”.

The situation with the water may affect school this week.  Chattooga County School officials are waiting for an update on Monday from the City of Summerville to make a decision about how the water problem will affect schools this coming week.
