The trial for Devin Lashawn Watts is likely to take place in the spring in Cherokee County, Alabama, for the killing of two Rome sisters in May 2020.
Watts’ co-defendant, Desmond Lavonta Brown, was convicted after a jury trial in November 2023 and sentenced to life in prison without parole for killing Armuchee High School student Vanita Richardson, 19, and her half-sister Truvenia Campbell, 31.
Their bodies, with bags tied over their heads, were found on May 13, 2020, by a Georgia Department of Transportation work crew inspecting the bypass bridge near the Etowah River.
Police later determined that the sisters were killed across the Alabama border in Cherokee County.
Watts is charged with capital murder and could face the death penalty. Another man, Christopher Pullen, is facing a felony murder charge and testified against Brown in his trial.
