A well known pastor, revival leader and a native of Trion passed away at his home in Attalla, Alabama on Sunday. Rev. Jimmy Bailey pastored in Tennessee and in Summerville early in his ministry, but for the past fifty-seven years, he had been the pastor at Reed Memorial Baptist Church in Attalla.
Rev. Bailey served in the U.S. Navy and worked at the cotton mill in Trion before entering the ministry. He held the record for the longest weekly radio broadcast in Alabama history. Bailey ran revivals all over the country but always came back to preach at his church on Sunday. He frequently preached revival services in Chattooga County and the surrounding area. The ninty-one-year-old pastor had told his congregation that this past Sunday would be his last sermon as pastor.
Visitation for Rev. Bailey will be this evening from 5 PM until 7 PM (Alabama Time) at Reed Memorial Baptist Church, 616 8th Avenue Southwest in Attalla.
Rev. Kevin Norton from Mountain View Baptist Church in Trion will be one of the ministers that officiates at Rev. Bailey’s funeral tomorrow at 11 AM at the Morgan Funeral Home Chapel in Attalla.
