The Deep South is not where the expectations of a white Christmas are very high – usually.  This year may be different as meteorologists watch a weather system moving out of the desert Southwest that will bring moisture to the Deep South by Friday evening.

Temperatures are expected to be at or below freezing north of Rome on Friday, Saturday and Sunday which means that any precipitation will come in the form of ice or snow.  In fact the National Weather Service issued a "Special Weather Statement" this morning at 3 AM saying that our part of the state could see from 2-4" of snow between Friday and the day after Christmas.

Chattooga County EMA Director Eddie Henderson told AM 1180 on Wednesday evening that he is keeping a close eye on the sky to see what develops over the Christmas holidays.  Lamar Canada with Chattooga County Public Works said that the county road crews are ready should snow develop over the weekend.
