Trion woman Melissa Milam told local law enforcement last Friday that an acquaintance had stolen $1,000 from her.
Ms. Milam told a county sheriff’s deputy that she had recently named Summerville woman Terri Young as her social security payee.
Milam learned that Young could pick the $500 checks without her being present, so she asked Young to cash her first one for her at Walmart.
According to Milam, Young has still not given the money to her. She confronted Young, who allegedly said she intended to keep it until her husband got paid.
Milam also said that when Young agreed to give her a ride to Rome on November 22nd, she asked her to hold on to $500 for her. Young still has that $500, Milam told the deputy, and has not returned any of her calls.
The sheriff’s department is investigating the issue.
