According to a report released last week by the Chattooga County Sheriff’s Office, a woman who identified herself as a volunteer firefighter, was arrested last Sunday after nearly hitting a Trion Police Car.

The events unfolded last Sunday around 1:11 AM when Officer Claxton from the Trion Police Department reported that a black Jeep Wrangler was speeding by, clocked at around 60 mph, without slowing down during a traffic stop on Central Avenue.

A deputy arrived at the scene a few minutes later and found Brenda Sue Fleming, age 42, who reportedly smelled of alcohol and identified herself as a firefighter. She admitted to consuming “just a few” drinks earlier. Suspecting she was driving under the influence, the deputy performed field sobriety tests. Fleming was then arrested after refusing a blood test following the Georgia Implied Consent Notice and became agitated, using profane language, and chose not to answer questions after being read her Miranda Rights, according to the report.

During a search of her vehicle, an open container of Butter Pecan Liquor was found. When requested to retrieve her purse, Deputy Reynolds detected a smell of marijuana. While being transported to the Chattooga County Jail, Fleming mentioned there might be a small amount of marijuana in her purse, apologized for driving, and claimed she thought enough time had passed since drinking. She later handed over the marijuana to Deputy Reynolds at the jail.

Fleming was booked into the Chattooga County Jail on charges of DUI, open container, and traffic offenses. No additional information was available immediately.
