Allie Jo Deberry, a 34-year-old woman, was arrested late Tuesday night on charges of driving under the influence of drugs, endangering the life of a child while driving, and failure to maintain lane after a traffic stop near Buck Gardner Road.

According to the Chattooga County Sheriff’s Office, Deberry was observed driving a blue SUV erratically, crossing over the double yellow line multiple times. After activating his emergency lights, a deputy initiated a stop just before Highway 337. Upon approaching the vehicle, the deputy detected a strong odor of marijuana. Inside the SUV, the deputy found a sleeping infant secured in a car seat in the rear passenger area.

During the interaction, Deberry admitted to smoking marijuana several hours prior to the incident, although she claimed not to have consumed any immediately before driving. A half-consumed blunt was discovered in the vehicle’s ashtray, and a small amount of marijuana was retrieved from Deberry’s purse. Deberry consented to voluntary field sobriety tests, which revealed multiple indicators of impairment. Observations included bloodshot eyes, dilated pupils, and significant difficulty completing the walk-and-turn and one-leg stand evaluations.

Following her arrest for DUI-drugs, Deberry was informed of her rights under Georgia’s implied consent law and agreed to a blood draw, which was conducted at the EMS station. Authorities ensured the safety of her infant child, who was turned over to a family member. Deberry was transported to the Chattooga County Detention Center without incident.
