A woman was arrested for reckless conduct after leaving a child alone at Walmart in Trion for an extended period of time.

According to a report from the Chattooga County Sheriff’s Office, last Thursday, Walmart employees noticed a nine-year-old girl at the service desk who was left unattended.  After several attempts to page an adult, Walmart employees called the sheriff’s office.  A responding deputy spoke with the minor and determined she was at the store with her great-aunt.

When the deputy finally located the great-aunt, she was loading up her vehicle in the parking lot.  The deputy asked the woman why she had not responded to the calls about the juvenile.  The woman told the deputy that she had every time she had been paged.

However, Walmart employees said that was not true.

The deputy arrested Donna Jean Shreve and charged her with reckless conduct – causing harm to, or endangering the safety of another.
