A Summerville woman says she was attacked by a man in her home Tuesday afternoon who put on gloves before he tried to assault her and then tried to stab her.

According to the report, the Back Penn Road woman said she was inside her home when the man knocked on her door and asked to use her telephone. She said she let him inside and when she walked into the kitchen to check the cake she was baking, she turned around and saw the man move towards her in an attempt to grab her.

She said he put on a pair of  "biker type" gloves and continued towards her and began to assault her in the living room, trying to rip her shirt off her and her pants.  As the two struggled and made their way into the kitchen, both reportedly fell to the floor. The woman said as she fell, she grabbed onto a kitchen cabinet to stop her fall. That is when a kitchen drawer came open and a small knife fell out.  The woman said her assailant grabbed the knife and tried to stab her in the stomach with it but she was able to strike him in the groin area while he was on top of her. That apparently allowed her to push the man off of her and escape the residence. 

According to the report, the woman's shirt was ripped and she had several scratches on her left shoulder and the left side of her abdomen where her assailant reportedly tried to stab her.

The suspect is described as approximately 40-years-old, five-feet, nine inches tall, about 200 pounds with short dark hair and well groomed. He has a scar on the left side of his neck , has very light facial hair and is soft spoken. He reportedly was wearing a dark blue tee-shirt and khaki pants.
