Another Chattooga County resident had a less then welcome run in with a deer recently on the Summerville side of Taylor’s Ridge.

According to reports a woman was traveling on Highway 27 toward Summerville when she said a deer jumped into her lane, causing her to strike the animal – which caused significant damage to the passenger side front bumper, hood, fender and headlight area. 

This is the time of year to be especially wary of deer.

Dawn and dusk are the most likely times to encounter deer along the roadside

Deer/Vehicle Collisions are most likely October – January

If you see one deer, there are likely more in the area as they tend to travel in groups

In areas with high populations of deer SLOW DOWN – that gives you extra time to react and may very well prevent an accident

Drive with your high-beams on to better illuminate deer and reflect their eyes in the dark

Never swerve to avoid a deer; that may cause you to lose control and hit a tree or a ditch – greatly increasing the chances of serious injury.
