The Chickamauga and Chattanooga National Military Park, in association with Women’s History Month, will be presenting “Camp Followers – It’s Not What You Think” Sunday, March 6.

This interpretive program will address many of the decisions women had to confront during the Civil War, and how many women, both in the north and the south, modified their lives in order to maintain their existence.

This 30-minute program will be held in the theater at the Chickamauga Battlefield Visitor Center starting at 2 p.m.

A park ranger will describes the actions and activities of these women as they left their homes and pursued their expectations during this difficult period.

Many women’s lives were connected — directly or indirectly — to the activities at military encampments throughout the war. And while many of these women were of questionable character, others remained in close proximity to these camps for other reasons — employment, medical assistance, devotion, and other objectives.
