Summerville resident, former Chattooga High School art teacher and former member of the Board of Education John Turner spends a lot of time promoting the World Friendship Flag Project.  This week he was in Trussville, Alabama.

The World Friendship Flag Project was started in 1995 by John Turner in Summerville, Georgia, and began in the art classes of Chattooga High School. The City of Summerville’s Mayor and Council voted to adopt itself as a Friendship Capital of the World in the fall of 2020 following a presentation by Turner.

The World’s Friendship Flag Project’s main goal was to promote world friendship and peace while combating world hunger and preventable diseases. The flag bears a central logo of a global unity theme designed by renowned Summerville Folk artist Howard Finster.

This week, John Turner was promoting the World Friendship Flag Project in Trussville, Alabama where he met with Trussville Mayor Buddy Choate and members of the Trussville Rotary Club.

Friendship Week in Summerville will be celebrated at Dowdy Park in Summerville the last Saturday of July.
