It appears that the Summerville Youth Wrestling will no longer get any kind of support from the City of Summerville. 

The council had voted earlier to make a donation to the program, something the city has done for many years, but Summerville Mayor Harry Harvey vetoed that measure.  The mayor said that the contribution was “illegal” and that he was acting on the advise of the city attorney in the matter.  The council tried to find a way around the mayor’s objections by asking groups to submit proposals to operate the youth wrestling program on behalf of the city.

The council was set to hear about those proposals when they met on Monday evening, but no groups submitted proposals for the council to review.

The city has been supporting the program for almost thirty years and in recent years has donated $2,500 each year towards Summerville Youth Wrestling.
