Miller is a familiar last name in Georgia politics.  Zell Miller served as Lt. Governor, Governor and as United States Senator from Georgia in a period from the 1970’s to the early 2000’s.  Now, his grandson has announced a run for the position of Lt. Governor.

Unlike when his grandfather became Lt. Governor in Georgia in 1974, Bryan Miller has never held elected office before.  Bryan Miller is best known for his roll in creating the Zell Miller Foundation – which strives to find bipartisan solutions to problems.

Bryan Miller is running as a Democrat in an already crowded field since current Lt. Governor Geoff Duncan announced he will not be seeking re-election.

Miller says one of the reasons he is running is to strengthen the HOPE scholarship program his grandfather championed.  Miller says, “Since my grandfather created it, nearly 2 million Georgians have been able to go to college. And not enough poor rural students and minority students have been able to enjoy the full benefits of HOPE as intended.”  The younger Miller says he hopes to correct that problem.
