Town Hall Meeting Friday at Summerville Depot

Two Floyd Teens Arrested for Theft

Two Floyd County teens are in jail after police came to school to arrest them for felony theft by taking. Reports indicate that the two18 year-old students at Coosa High School were in possession of stolen railroad tie plates. According to Floyd County Jail records: John Paul Mazzo, Jr. and Eric Keith Reynolds had a number of stolen scrap metal tie plates in the back of a Chevrolet S-10 pickup truck at the school Friday afternoon. Cedar Bluff Area Fires This Week

The Cedar Bluff Fire & Police Departments were busy with fire calls this past week. On Wednesday evening, they responded to a call of a vehicle fire on Highway 9 North near the State Docks. When they arrived, they found the automobile fully engulfed in flames. Traffic was delayed for a considerable time while crews fought to extinguish the blaze. The occupants of the car were able to exit safely, but the cause of the fire is under investigation. Then, on Thursday, the Cedar Bluff crews needed assistance from Gaylesville and Centre Fire Departments as they fought a mobile home fire on Highway 9 North near the intersection of Highways 9 and 35. The mobile home was fully engulfed in flames when crews arrived, and it is believed that the mobile home was abandoned. The cause of that fire is also under investigation.  (WEIS Radio)

Arrests Made Concerning Stolen City Manhole Covers

A Floyd County business owner was arrested Thursday and charged with theft by receiving and violation of transactions after Floyd County police found man hole covers that had been stolen from the city of Rome at his place of business. According to police, Terry’s Auto parts owner, Jack Rayburn of Cedartown, allegedly failed to obtain the proper paperwork when purchasing scrap metal at his place of business. Police say that Rayburn was in possession of manhole covers that were valued at over 3 thousand dollars and had been stolen from the city of Rome. All manhole covers have since been replaced. A second suspect has also been arrested in connection with the incident as police have picked up 19 year-old Clifford Eugene Lindsey III, and charged him with interference with government property and theft by receiving stolen property.  (RomeNewswire.com)

Trion Resident in Floyd County Wreck

A Trion resident was involved in an accident in Floyd County Friday which required that both he and his passenger be taken to Redmond Regional Medical Center with minor injuries. According to Floyd County police, the wreck occurred after a Floyd County resident struck the rear of a late model Ford Contour driven by Trion resident Castillo Luna Joaquin. Joaquin, along with his passenger Guzman Gerardo Perez, of a Dalton address, were taken to the hospital after complaining of neck and back pain. The Floyd resident was treated by EMS at the scene. Both drivers were cited in the incident: the Floyd resident for failure to yield while entering the roadway, and Joaquin for driving without a license.  (Rome News-Tribune)

Bomb Threat Received at Courthouse

Around 9:45 a.m. this morning the Chattooga County Courthouse was quickly evacuated after a bomb threat was received. According to Sheriff Ralph Kellet, everyone was cleared from the courthouse and the Judge sent everyone home until 1 p.m. At that time, court resumed with no further incidents.

Town of Trion Labor Day Schedule

The town of Trion Business Office, Maintenance Departments and Recreation Department will be closed on Monday, September 1 for Labor Day. Garbage normally picked up on Monday will be picked up on Tuesday, September 2. All other days will be on a regular schedule. Adairsville man sentenced on Pornography

A 63 year-old Adairsville man will be sentenced in October after pleading guilty yesterday in federal court to receiving child pornography. Jerald Wayne Anderson faces a minimum of 5 years and a maximum of 20 years imprisonment. He could also face a lifetime of supervised release. Anderson posed as a 13 year-old girl in a Yahoo chat room and asked a Broward County, Florida, undercover police officer posing as a 14-year-old girl to exchange “modeling” photos. Between October and December 2007 Anderson was in contact with the officer and another undercover officer in Pennsylvania at least three times. Investigation of computer IP addresses and Yahoo user information led agents to discover approximately 140 CDs and DVDs with images of children, some under the age of 5, engaging in sexually explicit conduct.
