Dogs Running Lose Causing Issues With Neighbors

A Sloppy Floyd Lake Road resident has gone to the Chattooga County Sheriff's Department in regard to dog issues with a neighbor. According to the report, the neighbor owns two Great Danes that are alleged to be constantly running loose during the day. The man says about two weeks ago, his two year old child was bitten on the arm by one of the dogs, but didn't receive any injury. He said he called Chattooga County Animal Control three times concerning the issue and nothing was done.
 
Another neighbor told officers that her Pit Bulldog and Chihuahua were both bitten by the neighbor's Great Danes and received minor injuries.  She told officers Animal Control did respond to that complaint and took custody of the Great Danes, but returned them later that day.
 
Deputies reportedly met with the owner of the Great Danes and made sure she was aware of the issues. She said she would try to keep the dogs under control. Officers advised E-911 to have Animal Control to follow-up on the situation, according to the report. .  

Pills Reported Stolen From Summerville Home

A Dogwood Circle, Summerville woman reported on Tuesday that jewelry and pills were stolen from her home. However the woman reportedly found all of the jewelry items which she told officers she had put into another jewelry box and forgotten about.  Initially reported missing was: seven rings, two pair of diamond earrings and about 31 Hydrocodone pills from the prescription bottle. According to the report, the Hydrocodone was never found. The woman said she noticed them gone about two weeks ago. She told officers she suspects a relative that lives out of town who had access to the residence.

Calhoun Woman Allegedly Leaves 6-Year-Old, 8-Month-Old Alone

A Calhoun woman was arrested on last week and charged with two counts of cruelty to children after police responded to a 911 call from a child who said he didn’t know where his parents were, The Calhoun Times reported.

Police say Laura Michelle Overfield, 25, of a Holly Hills residence, allegedly left the child, a 6-year-old, alone with an 8-month-old child for an estimated 35 minutes while she visited a neighbor.

An officer arrived on scene following the 911 call to find the 6-year-old standing in the doorway crying, according to police reports. Reports say the officer went inside and found the 8-month-old on the top of a 14-step staircase.

When the officer found Overfield, she told him that she had put the children to bed and brought flowers and a sympathy card over to a neighbor who had recently lost a family member, according to the police report.

DFACS officials were called to the scene and the children were left in the custody of a family member.

South Summerville Baptist Church has cancelled their AWANA's program for tonight.

 

Tavern Lane in Trion Closed

Trion Police Chief Chad Spraggins says that Tavern Lane is closed in the Town of Trion. A tree blew down and downed a power line. Georgia Power is supposed to be sending in a crew to take care of the power line but many of their resources are being directed to the Adairsville and Calhoun areas at this time. Spraggins said after the power company crew has taken care of the power line, Trion Public Works crews would clean up the tree. Tavern Lane will be closed until the work can be completed.
