Chattooga County Deputies responded to a call about a theft on Tuesday of this week. According to a report released by the sheriff’s office, Tracy Wood called to have a report about the theft of a Charter Spectrum cable box, router and modem from a residence that she had been renting. Ms. Wood said that Charter asked for a theft report regarding the incident. Ms. Wood said that she did not believe the former renter had taken the equipment, but that it had been stolen by a neighbor.
The Chattooga County Chamber of Commerce will hold their monthly meeting for August on the 16th. Chamber Director Cindy Rivers-McGraw says that with school back in session, Chamber meetings in August and September will focus on children.
The Summerville Police Department released a report this week about an assault that happened at the end of July. A Northwest Congress Street woman called police after her brother and his partner were found in her home without permission. According to the report, Jacob Wooten and Haley Nichols fled the scene of the crime before police arrived. When police met with the woman they could see a laceration on her face. The complainant and witnesses said that Wooten had assaulted the woman by striking her in the face and then trying to choke her. Jacob Wooten, age thirty-one, and Haley Nichols, age twenty-six, were later found and arrested in Trion. Nichols was charged with criminal trespass and Wooten was charged with criminal trespass and aggravated assault. Jacob Wooten also had suspected methamphetamine on his person when he was arrested, according to police.

A Walker County woman was charged with child molestation after she was found to have a sexual relationship with a teenage boy. Walker County Sheriff Steve Wilson says that nineteen-year-old Heather Leann Tucker was arrested on Monday of this week after an investigation revealed that she had recently had sex with a fourteen-year-old male. Sheriff Wilson said that Tucker was arrested on the charges and booked into the Walker County Jail.

The Summerville Police Department released a report this week about a DUI arrest that happened at the end of July. According to the report, a Chattooga County Deputy initiated a traffic stop in the city limits of Summerville after he suspected a drunk driver.
The Georgia Department of Public Health (DPH) is offering COVID-19 PCR testing at kiosks placed in communities across Georgia. In most locations, these kiosks offer access to COVID-19 testing 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
A Georgia law that makes it legal for the retail sale of certain products that contain the main intoxicating ingredient in marijuana appears to be ambiguous and has lead to a court battle between retail shop owners and law enforcement in Northwest Georgia.
