In the wake of a devastating flood pattern that has left more than 35 people dead and hundreds of others unaccounted for in eastern Kentucky, Chris Stapleton quietly made his way to the hardest-hit counties to help in relief efforts for his home state.
The Chattooga County Sheriff’s Office responded to a call last Friday to the Pennville Church of Christ on Greeson Street. When the deputy arrived, he spoke with a church member who was there to mow the grass and had noticed damage to the church building’s awning outside the sanctuary. The church member showed deputies video footage of a Hispanic male driving under the church awning in a van with a solar panel strapped to the top of the vehicle. The solar panel struck and damaged the awning and came loose from the top of the van. The video showed the man and woman passenger get out and pick up the solar panel and pieces of metal from the church building’s awning and then leaving the premises. The incident has been turned over to an investigator.

It is back to school today for Trion City School students. Trion School Superintendent Dr. Phil Williams told WZQZ News that teachers and staff are ready and are looking forward to another great year at Trion City Schools.
A Old Highway 27 Trion man called the sheriff’s office last week after he and his father got into an argument over who owned some roosters. According to an incident report released this week, the complainant – Charlie Hawkins – said that his father had come to his house, very irate, and was arguing with him about the animals. The complainant said that he didn’t want his father to come back to his house and wanted the deputy to deliver a criminal trespass warning to his father. The deputy then spoke with the complainant’s father who denied coming to his son’s house. In fact, the father said that Hawkins had come to his residence to argue about the roosters. The father said that he had paperwork to prove that the roosters were his. The responding deputy advised both parties to take their claims to Chattooga County Magistrate Court.
A Hixson Tennessee man was arrested by LaFayette Police after a fight involving himself, his wife and a local man the woman had been staying with, on Smallwood Street.
Summerville Police served a warrant on a Bittings Avenue woman and found her to be in possession of drugs. According to a report released on Tuesday of this week, the incident happened on July 22nd. When officers arrived at the residence of thirty-five-year-old Clarissa Ann Parriss, she told officers that there was a juvenile present. The officers allowed Parriss to make arrangements for someone to come and get the juvenile. Officers asked Parriss if she had anything illegal that did not need to cross the guard line at the Chattooga County Jail. At first, the woman denied having any illegal substances, but then admitted she had drugs on her person. The woman retrieved suspected crystal methamphetamine and prescription drugs from her bra and handed it to police. In addition to the warrant, Parriss was charged with possession of methamphetamine and possession of Schedule IV drugs and was booked into the Chattooga County Jail.

Chattooga County radio station WZQZ is undergoing some management changes. Station owner Jimmy Holbrook and longtime local radio personality Ben Groce announced this week the change at Chattooga County’s only local radio station.
