MR. DAVID LAMAR LOVE, age 80 of Red Oak Road, Summerville, Georgia passed away Wednesday, February 1, 2023, at his residence. He was born in Summerville, Georgia on March 8, 1942, son of the late William Marion Love and Fannie Avis Lewis Love. Mr. Love was a Veteran of the United States Army serving in the Viet Nam war, a member of Trion Heights Baptist Church, and a member of various Veteran and community organizations. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Kristopher Wallin and siblings, William Marion Love, Ruth Coker and Robert Love.

Surviving are his Wife, Vera Nell Love; Children, Colleen Cordle, Vernon Johnson, Robert Johnson; 9 Grandchildren, 10 Great Grandchildren, 6 Great Great Grandchildren; Siblings, Jenny Tucker, Winston Love, Walter Love, Ben Love; Special Sister-in-law, Margie Love; Special Nephew, Steve Love.

Funeral Services will be held Saturday, February 4th, at 1:00 P.M. from the J.D. Hill Memorial Chapel of Earle Rainwater Funeral Home with Pastor Vernon Johnson and Odell Anderson officiating, Interment in West Hill Cemetery. Active Pallbearers will be Kevin Vaughn, Tim Harrison, Andrew Johnson, Mike Love, Stephen Cordell and Bill Tutton. Honorary Pallbearers will be Members of American Legion Post #129, members of Mason-McCauley VFW Post #6688, Sons of Legion Squadron #129, the Adult Men’s Sunday School Class of Trion Heights Baptist Church, and Members of the Chattooga County Wildlife Club. The family will receive friends Saturday from 11 until 1 P.M. at the Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers the Family asks for contributions to Trion Heights Baptist Church local ministries.

A post on social media this week had some people thinking that Leslie’s Burger Shack in Summerville was closing – but it was a case of mistaken identity.  While it is true that the Burger Shack in nearby Cedar Bluff, Alabama is closing – the local Burger Shack on Rome Boulevard (U.S. Highway 27) in Summerville remains open.

Michael Todd Kirby, Obit (M)

Mr. Michael Todd Kirby, age 53, of Rome, GA, died Monday, January 30, 2023, at his residence.

Mr. Kirby was born April 4, 1969, son of James Kirby, Jr. and the late Freddie Mae Allen. He was self-employed in the construction industry. Mr. Kirby loved cutting grass and spending time with his family and friends. He was also a fence builder.

In addition to his mother, he was preceded in death by brothers, James Edward “Pee Wee” Kirby and Walter Kirby.

Survivors include his father, James Kirby, Jr.; sisters, Cynthia (Brannon) Kirby, Latonya (Coby) Wilborn; nephews, Codie Kirby, Marquez Kirby; nieces, Latasha Kirby, Azariah Smith, and Aaliya Smith; great-nephew, Semaj Kirby; aunts, Nancy Kirby, Charlotte Ellison, Jean Bankston, and Taffy Kirby; uncles, Roger (Barbara) Kirby, Ted Kirby, and Joe Kirby.

Funeral services for Mr. Kirby will be held at 2:00 P.M. Saturday, February 4, 2023, from the Mason Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Melvin Moseley officiating.

Mobile Home Tax Bills Delayed

Chattooga County Tax Commissioner Joy Hampton says that mobile home tax bills are being delayed and will not be in mailboxes this week as expected.  The tax commissioner told WZQZ News that the bills are printed in Chattanooga and the printer is experiencing worker shortages and was not able to get the bills in time.  Hampton said that even though mobile home taxes in Georgia are due on April 1st of each year, because of this delay, Chattooga County mobile home owners tax bills won’t be counted late until April 10, 2023.  If you have any questions, you may contact the Chattooga County Tax Commissioner’s office at 706-857-0702.  Remember, the Chattooga County Tax Office is open Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays from 7:30 AM until 5:30 PM and closed Wednesdays, Saturdays and Sundays and holidays.

Mr. Anthony Odell “Tony” Sparks, age 66, of Trion, GA, died Tuesday, January 31, 2023, at Advent Health Redmond.

Mr. Sparks was born March 16, 1956, in Trion, GA, son of Garlis and Shirley Jean Chastain Sparks. He was the owner and operator of Sparks Appliance.

Mr. Sparks was preceded in death by his grandparents, Voy and Edgel Sparks, Leo and Elsie Chastain.

Survivors include his wife, Melanie Smith Sparks; children, Dana (James) Youngs, Shane (Britney) Sparks, and Jacob Sparks; parents, Garlis and Shirley Sparks; brothers, Terry Sparks, Dennis Sparks, Michael Sparks, and Brian Sparks; 13 grandchildren; and 3 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 4:00 P.M. Friday, February 3, 2023, from the Mason Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Joel Glenn officiating. Interment will follow in West Hill Cemetery. Trion Man Arrested In Gordon County

A Chattooga County man was arrested last month in Gordon County for a probation violation.  According to arrest records from the Gordon County Sheriff’s Office, forty-six-year-old Kenneth Wayne Bentley of Trion was arrested on January 18th on the probation charge stemming from his original arrest on possession of methamphetamine charges.
