Number Of COVID Cases Drop In Weekly Report

Even as the overall number of reported COVID-19 cases dropped in the Northwest Georgia area over the past week, there were two additional deaths reported in the region; one each in Floyd and Bartow counties.  There were also two “probable” COVID-19 deaths over the past week in the region.  Chattooga County saw the total number of reported cases drop to just two this past week.  The Georgia Department of Public Health uses the term “reported cases” because some people that use home-test kits and test positive for COVID-19 don’t report those cases to their local health department.  Across the state in Georgia, 2,128 new cases were reported to health officials, down from 3,539 the previous week.

South Carolina Woman Charged With DUI In Chattooga County

Shortly after 10:30 PM on Sunday evening, a Chattooga County deputy spotted a vehicle on Highway 27 headed south that was driving at an excessive rate of speed.  The deputy followed the vehicle over Taylor’s Ridge and activated blue lights for a traffic stop near the intersection of Gore-Subligna Road.  The driver of the vehicle continued a short ways down Highway 27 before pulling off on the shoulder.  When the deputy asked the driver for her license, she handed the deputy her American Express card.  The deputy noticed that the woman was talking excessively about things that had nothing to do with the traffic stop.  The deputy then noticed multiple open wine bottles in the woman’s vehicle and in her purse.  Fifty-three-year-old Kimberly Thomason of Simpsonville, South Carolina was arrested and booked into the Chattooga County Jail on charges of DUI, excessive speeding, open container of alcohol and expired registration.
