The Children’s Advocacy Center of the Lookout Mountain Judicial Circuit is celebrating its 25th Anniversary this year. For twenty-five years, the Children’s Advocacy Center has provided access to free services to child abuse survivors and their families.
On the final day of the state legislature’s session last week, the Georgia House of Representatives passed a series of bills, sponsored by State Rep. Eddie Lumsden (R-Armuchee) , that will establish a hotel/motel tax in Summerville, Trion and the unincorporated areas of Chattooga County.
A thirty-three-year-old Trion man was sentenced to ten years in prison in Chattooga County Superior Court. Joshua Lamar Blackmon, who has a history of arrests in both Chattooga and Floyd Counties dating back over a decade, pleaded guilty to the charges of trafficking cocaine and possession of methamphetamine. Blackmon was arrested on Highway 27 at Taylor’s Ridge in June of last year and deputies found drugs inside the vehicle he was driving. In addition to the ten-year prison sentence, Blackmon has been ordered to pay $18,853.50 in fines.
The Trion Fire Department, along with the Chattooga County Swift Water Rescue Team and Atrium Health Floyd EMS, responded to a call about two victims in Spring Creek near Penn Bridge on Penn Bridge Road around noon on Saturday.

A twenty-seven-year-oodl Ellijay woman was arrested at the Chattooga-Floyd County line last week after she was found driving in a stolen car. Law enforcement arrested the woman after stopping the stolen vehicle while she was traveling on Highway 27. While arresting the woman, it was discovered that she was driving on suspended license. Lori Elizabeth Dowda was arrested and charged with theft by taking a motor vehicle and driving on a suspended or revoked license.
