Another candidate has announce intentions to run for Chattooga County Coroner.
A single-vehicle accident on Monday afternoon on Highway 27 at Taylor’s Ridge sent a woman to the hospital with injuries. According to information given by the Georgia State Patrol to WZQZ on Monday afternoon, “A Ford 150 towing a trailer was traveling south on Ga 1 entered a right curve and lost control. Truck left the road and traveled down an embankment striking multiple trees before coming to rest. The female driver was transported to Floyd Hospital with visible injuries. The investigation continues”. WZQZ will have more information when a report is released from the Georgia State Patrol Public Information Office.
The Georgia Emergency Management and Homeland Security Agency, along with the National Weather Service, would like to encourage all Georgians to participate in Severe Weather Preparedness Week, which takes place Feb. 5-9.
The Chattooga County Republican Party gave their nod of approval to a candidate for sheriff who was arrested last year after cussing out a bus driver in front of children. Seventy-year-old Edwin Raughton of Summerville was arrested in April of last year after he was caught on video using foul language around children on a school bus. Raughton was one of several candidates who appeared before a select committee of the local Republican Party to determine if they upheld “Republican values”.
Chattooga County Election Superintendent Gary Woods released the following list of “approved” candidates by the Chattooga County Republican Party this morning. There will be contested races for County Commissioner, Sheriff and a four-way race for Coroner:
