The Chattooga County Government welcomes all members of the community to participate in Chattooga County Administration Public Meetings. The meetings provide an opportunity for dialogue between the county’s citizens and administrative officials. During these sessions, department heads from various sectors such as Public Works, Water District, Code Enforcement, EMA 911, and the Clerk’s office, along with the Commissioner, present comprehensive reports and address any questions or concerns raised by members of the public. The next meeting will be this Tuesday, February 27th at 10 AM at the Chattooga County Civic Center, located at 44 Highway 48 in Summerville.
Georgia Agriculture Commissioner Tyler Harper and Georgia Restaurant Association (GRA) President + CEO Stephanie Fischer announced six new Georgia Grown Executive Chefs at the 2024 Taste of Georgia Legislative Reception last night. The Georgia Grown Executive Chef program is a statewide program designed to promote and foster relationships between chefs and farmers while spreading awareness about the quality of locally sourced and grown products in Georgia’s restaurant scene.
Advance Voting in the 2024 Presidential Preference Primary continues in Chattooga County. Yesterday was the first of two opportunities for local voters to cast their ballots on Saturday. The next opportunity will be on Saturday March 2, 2024. All early voting takes place at the Chattooga County Registrars Office located at 10017 Commerce Street in Summerville, just south of the Chattooga County Courthouse. State Representative Lauren Daniel (R-Locust Grove) recently introduced House Bill 1284, which would increase the penalties for passing a school bus and encourage schools to pick up students on the right side of a road that has a speed limit of over 40 mph. House Bill 1284, or “Addy’s Law,” was named after eight-year-old Adalyn Pierce of Henry County who was killed by a driver as she was crossing the road to get onto her school bus. Representatives Clint Crowe (R-Jackson) and Karen Mathiak (R-Griffin) are cosponsors of HB 1284.

Construction Ready CareerExpo wrapped up yesterday at the Georgia World Congress Center in Atlanta. Thousands of students from across Georgia attended the Expo, the state’s largest youth workforce development event for the construction industry, including students from Chattooga High School. CareerExpo 2024 also featured the SkillsUSA State Championship, a competition that allows students to showcase their skills in a number of construction-related disciplines. Chattooga High School brought home state championships in several categories. Winners will represent Georgia at the SkillsUSA Nationals Championship in Atlanta, June 24 – 28, 2024.
