Saturday Voting Today In Presidential Preference Primary

Saturday voting is happening today at the Chattooga County Registrars Office in the Presidential Preference Primary.  Voting will take place between 9 AM and 5 PM.  Be sure to bring a picture ID when you come to vote.  The Chattooga County Registrars Office is located at 10017 Commerce Street in Summerville, just south of the Chattooga County Courthouse.  Advance Voting weekday hours are 8:30 AM- 5 PM and will continue next week.  Voters will have another opportunity to vote on Saturday coming up on March 2nd.

State Senate Approves Casino Referendum

The state Senate Economic Development and Tourism Committee approved a proposed constitutional amendment late Thursday calling for Georgia voters to decide whether to legalize not only sports betting but casino gambling. Other gambling legislation before the General Assembly this year is limited to sports betting.

City Of Summerville Seeks Bids For Paving

The City of Summerville is seeking bids for paving.  The bids need to be received at Summerville City Hall, located at 120 Georgia Avenue, but 2 PM on March 1, 2024.  The sealed bids must be good for thirty business days.  The City of Summerville says that all bids are subject to the provisions and conditions outlined in the bid packet that is available online  HERE or at Summerville City Hall.

Center Post Community Center Indoor Community Yard Sale

Center Post Community Center will host its Annual Spring Indoor Community Yard Sale Saturday March 2, 2024 from 8 AM – 1 PM. There will be over 20 families set up. LaFayette’s Downtown Dough and Co. will be operating the concession stand. This event will be rain or shine. Center Post Community Center is located at 8125 Highway 337 in southern Walker County. 

Alisa Dawn Burkhalter, Obit (C)

Mrs. Alisa Dawn Burkhalter, age 55 of Summerville, Georgia passed away unexpectedly Tuesday, February 20, 2024 at her residence.

Mrs. Burkhalter was born in Detroit, Michigan on July 5, 1968, daughter of Violet Ruth Burhkalter Alexander. She had been employed as an occupational therapist, and was of the Christian faith.

Mrs. Burkhalter loved her plants, cooking and traveling, but her favorite activity was spending time with her family, especially playing with and teaching her grandbabies. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Courtney Eliane Brown; grandmother, Nora Belle Davis and her former father-in-law, Jerry M. Brown.

Mrs. Burkhalter is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Jacob Levi and Chelsea Brown; daughter and son-in-law, Baylee Delaine and Dakota Crowe; Mother and Stepfather, Violet Ruth and Don Alexander; grandchildren, Ellie Crowe and Oaklyn Crowe; and a number of additional Aunts, Uncles, Cousins and extended family members.

Graveside and Interment Services for Mrs. Burkhalter will be held Monday, February 26, 2024 at 1:30 P.M. in the Garrett Cemetery with Rev. Sammy Barrett officiating.

Pallbearers will be Dakota Crowe, Matthew Johnston, Mason Eller and Scott Johnston.

The family of Mrs. Burkhalter receive friends Monday from 12:00 Noon until 1:00 P.M. at the Coffman Funeral Home.
