Nancy Carol Lowry, Obit (C)

Ms. Nancy Carol Lowry, age 83 of Summerville, Georgia passed away Friday, May 16, 2025 at Oakview Health.

Ms. Lowry was born in Trion, Georgia on April 3, 1942, daughter of the late William Russell Lowry and Myrtis Josie Adams Lowry. Nancy was a member of the Midway Baptist Church. Nancy was loved by many. She was a very special, loving daughter, sister, aunt and friend to many. All fell in love with her when they met her. In addition to her parents, Ms. Lowry was preceded in death by sisters, Lillie May “Jackie” Mills; Mary Jo Treadaway; Doris Jean Henderson; Betty Ann Tucker; brothers, Floyd Howell Lowry; Herman Lee Lowry. The family would like to thank the staff of Oakview Health for the loving care and kindness shown to Nancy.

Ms. Lowry is survived by a number of nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.

Graveside and Interment Services for Ms. Lowry will be held Tuesday, May 20, 2025 at 2:00 P.M. at the West Hill Cemetery with Rev. Larry Elliott officiating.

Linda S. Black, Obit (M)

Mrs. Linda S. Black, age 81, of Lyerly, GA, died Saturday, May 17, 2025, at her residence.

Mrs. Black was born August 9, 1943, in Ringgold, GA, daughter of the late Ray Henderson Stapp and Nellie Kate Fowler Stapp. She was a member of the Summerville First United Methodist Church, and prior to her retirement, was employed with the State of Georgia. She was a blue ribbon embroiderer and seamstress. Mrs. Black had served on multiple committees in her church and as a past president of the Georgia Veterinarian
Medical Association Auxiliary. She loved spending time with her family.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Shirley Stapp.

Survivors include her husband of 58 years, Dr. C. Carter Black; daughter, Candi (Charles) Forester; sister, Dr. Jamie (Rev. Joseph) Young; grandchildren, Jordan (Josh) Turner, Emily (Randall) Burns, and Andrew Irvin; and 7 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services for Mrs. Black will be held at 2:00 P.M. Thursday, May 22, 2025, at the Summerville First United Methodist Church with Mr. Lorenzo Wiggins and Mr. Garry Floyd officiating. Interment will follow in the South Carolina Campground Cemetery. Honorary pallbearers will be her Friendship Circle and the staff of Heyman Hospice, especially her nurse and C.N.A., Jeanette.

Mrs. Black will be in state at Mason Funeral Home and the family will receive friends from 5:00 until 7:00 P.M. Wednesday, May 21, 2025.

Thunderstorms, Some Possibly Severe, Expected Tonight Into Wednesday Morning

Residents of Northwest Georgia should prepare for the possibility of severe thunderstorms this evening and overnight. The National Weather Service says a cold front expected to bring a line of storms through the region after 7 PM today. The greatest risk of severe weather lies in Northwest Georgia, where thunderstorms could produce damaging wind gusts and a few brief tornadoes. Hail is also a possibility. Before the storms arrive, the area will experience mostly cloudy skies gradually becoming sunny, with a high near 88 degrees. A light south wind will become a southwest wind blowing at 10 to 15 mph in the morning, with gusts potentially reaching 25 mph. There’s a 10 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms after 5 PM. Tonight, showers and thunderstorms are expected mainly before 2 AM. The low will be around 66 degrees with a south wind around 5 mph, gusting up to 15 mph. An 80% chance of precipitation is predicted, with new rainfall amounts between three-quarters and one inch possible. The forecast for the rest of the week looks significantly calmer. Wednesday will be sunny with a high near 81. Wednesday night will be mostly clear with a low around 58. Thursday will be sunny with a high near 79. Looking ahead to the weekend, Saturday has a 20% chance of showers and thunderstorms.
