A 72-year-old woman was arrested in Trion earlier this month following an alleged shoplifting incident at a retail store along U.S. Highway 27, according to an arrest report from the Chattooga County Sheriff’s Office.
Authorities identified the suspect as Brenda Gail Reece, 72.
The incident occurred on December 10, 2025, when deputies were dispatched to a business after loss prevention staff reported a suspected shoplifter. Investigators say store personnel observed Reece selecting items inside the store and proceeding through self-checkout without paying for all merchandise in her shopping cart.
According to the report, the unpaid item was valued at $2.38. Deputies made contact with Reece inside the store and escorted her to the loss prevention office, where she was identified and questioned. Reece was then taken into custody without incident.
Authorities also reported that Reece had previously been issued a criminal trespass warning from the property in September 2024, leading to an additional charge.
Reece was charged with theft by shoplifting (misdemeanor) and criminal trespass (misdemeanor). She was transported to the Chattooga County Detention Center.
