Unseasonably warm temperatures will continue across Chattooga County and the rest of Northwest Georgia as we head through the weekend and into next week. Forecasters say highs will run about 10 to 15 degrees above normal, and a few record highs may even be challenged across the region.

Light rainfall is possible across north Georgia Thursday evening into the overnight hours, but totals are expected to be very low. Another round of light showers may move in Friday evening into early Saturday. Forecasters caution that neither system is expected to bring enough rain to improve ongoing drought conditions across Northwest Georgia.

A larger weather system may arrive Monday night into Tuesday, bringing widespread rain and possibly a few thunderstorms to Chattooga County and surrounding areas. Meteorologists say uncertainty remains regarding rainfall amounts and the exact timing, but early indications suggest this will be the area’s best chance for meaningful rain in over a week.

In the shorter term, patchy fog could form overnight in parts of North Georgia, especially in valleys and low-lying areas. Drivers across Chattooga County should be prepared for reduced visibility early Thursday morning.

Temperatures will stay well above average through the period, with highs in the upper 70s to even low 80s in some parts of Northwest Georgia.
