Residents across Chattooga County and Northwest Georgia can expect a cool, calm, and pleasant Thanksgiving, with clear to mostly clear skies settling over the region. After several unseasonably warm days this month, temperatures have dropped back to more seasonable levels—and today will feel like the official arrival of late fall. Afternoon highs will range from the upper 40s to near 60, with a noticeable chill in the air.
Behind the recent cold front, drier air is pouring into the region, and that will keep conditions cool and quiet through at least Saturday. Morning lows on Friday will dip into the mid-20s to low 30s, and highs on Friday will remain on the cooler side, topping out in the 40s to mid-50s across Northwest Georgia.
While skies will stay sunny, the dry air does bring fire concerns. A Fire Danger Statement is in effect for parts of central and eastern Georgia, and while Chattooga County is not currently under an advisory, low humidity levels could create elevated fire danger across portions of Northwest Georgia through Saturday. Officials urge residents to use extreme caution with any outdoor burning.
Looking ahead, rain chances return late in the weekend as a new system approaches from the west. Showers may begin arriving in far Northwest Georgia as early as Sunday morning before spreading south and east into Monday. Most of the rain will stay light, but forecasters say the pattern will remain unsettled into next week.
