An arctic cold front moving into northwest Georgia tonight will bring gusty winds and the coldest air of the season to Chattooga County Sunday night into Monday morning. A Cold Weather Advisory is in effect Sunday evening through Monday morning, and residents are urged to prepare now for a sharp drop in temperatures.

Once the front passes around daybreak, winds will quickly shift to the northwest and gusts could top 30 mph through Sunday afternoon. Temperatures will actually be warmest early in the morning, then fall through the day.

A cold weather advisory has been issued for the area from 6pm this evening until 8am Monday morning.

By daybreak Monday, lows are expected to drop into the teens across Chattooga County and much of northwest Georgia. With lingering winds, wind chills will be near advisory levels, making it feel even colder. Conditions stay dry, and sunshine should help temperatures rebound into the 40s Monday afternoon.

Cold mornings will continue into Tuesday, but a warming trend will take hold by midweek, with highs climbing into the 50s and possibly 60s farther south. Rain chances look to return Thursday or Friday as another weather system approaches the region.

Residents are encouraged to protect pipes, bring pets indoors, and check on elderly or vulnerable neighbors before the worst of the cold sets in.
