Chattooga County will see new leadership in municipal government in the new year, with new mayors set to take office in 2026 in both Trion and Summerville following the November municipal elections.
In Trion, voters elected Mickey McGraw as the town’s next mayor. The transition comes as current Mayor Lanny Thomas chose not to seek re-election. Thomas has shifted his focus to regional politics and is now concentrating on his campaign for Georgia’s 53rd State Senate District, a seat that represents parts of Northwest Georgia, including Chattooga County.
In Summerville, residents selected Rickey Hughes as the city’s next mayor, marking a change in leadership as the community looks ahead to the priorities of the coming administration. With major issues like infrastructure needs, economic development, and public services continuing to shape local conversations, many residents are watching closely to see what direction the city takes in 2026.
Both incoming mayors are expected to take office as the new year begins.
