CRC Chattooga is extending a heartfelt thank you to North Georgia EMC members whose participation in Operation Round Up is making a real difference in local lives.
What Is Operation Round Up?
Operation Round Up is a community-giving program offered by North Georgia EMC in which electric cooperative members choose to “round up” their monthly electric bill to the next whole dollar. For example, if a bill is $83.47, it is rounded up to $84.00 — and the extra 53 cents is added to a community fund. Because the extra amount on each bill is just a few cents per month, many members don’t feel the individual impact — but those small amounts add up to thousands of dollars that can be used to help people right here at home.
CRC Chattooga uses these funds to support individuals experiencing homelessness by removing barriers to stability, such as:
-
Paying for birth certificates needed for job applications
-
Covering housing application fees
-
Providing basic hygiene items so people can shower, clean up, and participate in job interviews with dignity
Those services help people take immediate steps toward self-sufficiency and confidence.
CRC highlighted two success stories from 2025 — Billy and Owen. Both were without a home earlier in the year. Thanks in part to support made possible through Operation Round Up, both are now living in their own apartments, employed, and have reliable transportation.
CRC Chattooga says these changes — from crisis to stability — are exactly what Operation Round Up was designed to do: turn spare change into life-changing support.
