Community Resource Center Seeks Food And Household Donations

The Community Resource Center of Chattooga is asking for help keeping its pantry shelves stocked as more local families continue to rely on the organization for assistance.

CRC says August was a busy month, with many neighbors coming through the pantry and causing some of the most commonly requested items to move quickly.

The organization is encouraging churches, workplaces, Sunday School classes, civic groups and groups of friends to consider holding a simple food or supply drive.

Items especially needed right now include peanut butter, jelly, canned fruit, canned proteins such as chicken or tuna, toilet paper, paper towels and other everyday household essentials.

CRC says a large-scale drive is not necessary. Even a few people collecting a few items each can help keep the pantry ready for the next person or family who needs assistance.

Donations can be taken to the Community Resource Center of Chattooga, 50 Eleanor Avenue in Summerville.

CRC Chattooga is asking the community to help restock its Clothes Closet, with a special need right now for men’s clothing and shoes.

The organization recently shared the story of a guest who came in hoping to find something many people may take for granted — a pair of shoes that actually fit. After finding a pair in the Clothes Closet, she was so excited that she told volunteers she did not want to take them off, even to sleep. CRC officials said the moment was a reminder of how much a simple donation can mean to someone in need.

CRC Chattooga’s Clothes Closet operates much like a free thrift store for the families the organization serves. Clothing, shoes, household goods, personal care products and other donated non-food necessities are available through a point system, but there is no charge to the families receiving the items.

Right now, the organization is especially looking for gently used men’s shirts, jeans, pants, jackets, shoes and other clothing.

CRC Chattooga is encouraging local residents to take a look through their closets and consider donating items they no longer wear. An unused shirt or pair of shoes could make an important difference for a neighbor who needs it.

Donations may be taken to CRC Chattooga at 50 Eleanor Avenue in Summerville.

CRC Chattooga is looking for volunteers willing to give a little of their time each week to help deliver food to local families who are unable to visit the food pantry themselves.

The organization is currently seeking a two-person volunteer delivery team that can work together one day each week to deliver food boxes to families in need throughout the community.

According to CRC Chattooga, volunteers would typically deliver only two to four food boxes each week, but those deliveries can make a significant difference for families who cannot travel to the pantry to pick up food.

The opportunity could be a good fit for two friends, spouses, family members or others who would like to volunteer together while helping their neighbors.

CRC Chattooga provides food and other assistance to individuals and families throughout Chattooga County.

Dancing With Our Stars – Chattooga Style 2026 is happening this evening at the Chattooga High School Auditorium.

The event will feature local participants taking the stage in a dance competition to benefit CRC Chattooga and its work to fight hunger, feed hope and support families across the community.

Audience members can cheer for their favorite teams, and every dollar donated will count as a vote. Organizers say the event is designed to bring the community together for a night of entertainment while also raising support for local families in need.

The VIP experience begins at 5:30 p.m., with the main show starting at 7 p.m.

Tickets are now on sale for the Community Resource Center of Chattooga’s second annual “Dancing With Our Stars – Chattooga Style” fundraiser.

The event benefits the Community Resource Center and is presented by VistaLife and Vitality Labs. Local community members have volunteered to take the stage in support of the CRC and its mission of serving families throughout Chattooga County.

The fundraiser is scheduled for Saturday, July 25, beginning at 5:30 p.m. at the Chattooga High School Auditorium.

Organizers say last year’s inaugural event raised more than $58,000 to support the CRC’s programs and services. They hope this year’s event will build on that success while providing an entertaining evening for the community.

The Chattooga Community Resource Center (CRC) announced it will be closed Monday, January 26, 2026, due to predicted inclement weather, saying the decision is aimed at keeping volunteers and the community safe. CRC is urging residents to avoid travel unless it’s an emergency, especially as winter weather impacts are expected across the area.

CRC also reminded residents that anyone who loses power and needs a warm place to stay should go to the gym at the old North Summerville School, located behind the Community Resource Center. The gym will be open to all residents as a warming location. If someone cannot make it to the gym, CRC says to call 9-1-1, and transportation can be arranged.

The message from CRC is simple: don’t stay home without heat, food, or help—use the resources available. CRC ended its announcement with a reminder of community strength: “We are in this together. We are Chattooga Strong.”
