Widespread showers and a few isolated thunderstorms will continue across Chattooga County and Northwest Georgia today and into tonight as a cold front tracks south through the region. Early activity has included occasional lightning, but storms have remained scattered and disorganized with no strong or organized severe threat showing up in the near-term pattern.

Rain chances stay highest through the morning hours, with the main band of showers shifting steadily south. Conditions should gradually improve from north to south through the afternoon, though leftover moisture and daytime heating could still spark a few hit-or-miss showers later today, mainly outside the northwest corner of the state.

Temperatures will stay mild despite the rain, with highs reaching the 60s and 70s across the area. Tonight, cooler air begins filtering in behind the front, and lows will settle into the 40s and 50s.

Dry weather and comfortable temperatures return over the weekend for North and Central Georgia, including much of Northwest Georgia. Expect decreasing clouds Saturday with plenty of breaks of sun, and mild afternoons continuing into Sunday. Highs will generally run from the upper 60s into the mid-70s, and some spots could flirt with near-80 warmth Sunday afternoon. Overnight temperatures remain seasonably mild, mostly in the upper 40s to low 50s.

Looking into next week, low-end rain chances are expected to return beginning Monday and could linger on and off through the middle of the week. Forecast confidence isn’t especially high yet because longer-range models don’t fully agree on timing and coverage, so rain chances are being kept on the lower side for now. Temperatures should average near to slightly above normal overall, though parts of North and especially Northeast Georgia could see cooler readings if a cold-air wedge pattern sets up along the eastern side of the Appalachians.
