Sunshine and comfortable temperatures may make it feel like a picture-perfect spring week in Chattooga County, but the dry air and gusty winds are creating serious concerns for fire danger across Northwest Georgia.
Tuesday will bring cool morning temperatures in the 40s and low 50s, followed by mostly sunny skies and afternoon highs reaching the low to mid 70s. While the weather may feel pleasant, the very dry air in place will make it easier for fires to start and spread quickly.
By Wednesday, winds are expected to pick up as cooler air pushes into North Georgia. Afternoon highs will likely stay in the mid to upper 60s, but low humidity and breezy conditions will continue to support hazardous fire weather through the day. Officials are urging residents to avoid outdoor burning and use extra caution with anything that could spark a fire.
The dry pattern will remain in place for the rest of the workweek. A slight chance of rain may develop Thursday well to the south, but Chattooga County and much of Northwest Georgia are expected to stay dry. Forecast confidence remains high that meaningful rainfall will be hard to come by over the next several days.
By the weekend, temperatures are expected to climb sharply, with many communities across Northwest Georgia warming back into the 80s. That return to above-normal warmth, combined with little to no rainfall, will only add to concerns about worsening dry ground conditions and expanding drought stress.
For residents across Chattooga County, the message this week is clear: enjoy the sunshine, but stay mindful of the growing fire risk as dry weather continues and warmer days move in for the weekend.
