Dry conditions and near-normal temperatures are expected to hold steady across Chattooga County and Northwest Georgia through the remainder of the week, but it’s the fire danger that has officials on alert.

A combination of very dry air and breezy conditions has prompted a Red Flag Warning for parts of the region, along with a broader Fire Danger Statement covering Northwest Georgia. Winds between 10 to 15 miles per hour and low humidity levels around 25 to 30 percent are creating an environment where fires can start easily and spread quickly.

Local officials are urging residents to avoid outdoor burning and use extreme caution with anything that could spark a flame, as vegetation across the area remains exceptionally dry.

Looking ahead, conditions stay dry into Thursday with slightly calmer winds, though fire concerns will likely continue. Temperatures will begin to climb heading into the weekend, reaching well above normal levels.

By late week and into the weekend, highs are expected to surge into the mid to upper 80s—more typical of early summer than April. Unfortunately, there is little to no chance of rain in the forecast, meaning drought conditions are expected to worsen across Chattooga County and the broader Northwest Georgia region.

Residents should remain weather-aware and take precautions as the elevated fire risk continues.
