Northwest Georgia will begin the week with seasonably mild temperatures before daily rain chances and hotter conditions return.

Today will be partly sunny with a high near 86 degrees. Southwest winds will range from 5 to 10 mph, with gusts as high as 15 mph. A stray shower or thunderstorm is possible early tonight, but most areas should remain dry. The overnight low will fall to around 68 degrees.

Showers and thunderstorms become more likely Monday, mainly after 2 p.m. Rain chances increase to 50 percent, with another high near 86. Any storms should diminish during the evening, leaving partly cloudy skies and a low near 69.

Tuesday is expected to bring the greatest rain chance of the week. Showers may begin during the morning, with thunderstorms becoming more likely during the afternoon. The chance of rain is 70 percent, and the high will reach about 88 degrees. Storms may continue into Tuesday evening.

Scattered afternoon storms remain possible Wednesday and Thursday, with rain chances around 30 percent each day. Highs will gradually rise from near 89 Wednesday to around 90 Thursday.

Friday and Saturday will continue the typical summertime pattern, with partly to mostly sunny conditions interrupted by scattered showers and thunderstorms. High temperatures will remain near 90 degrees.

The National Weather Service says a moist weather pattern will support daily afternoon storm chances through the week. Some storms could produce gusty winds, frequent lightning and locally heavy rainfall. While the greatest severe weather concern today is expected in east-central Georgia, localized flooding could still develop anywhere repeated storms move across the same area.

Temperatures across North Georgia are expected to climb into the low and possibly mid-90s by next weekend as high pressure begins building over the region.
