Summerville Main Street is inviting dog lovers and their four-legged companions to downtown Summerville for Dog Daze on Saturday, August 15.

The free outdoor event will be held from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. at the Summerville Depot and along East Washington Street, with activities, vendors, pet services and entertainment planned throughout the day.

Organizers say the event is open to friendly dogs over six months of age and is designed to give both pets and their owners a full day of fun.

Among the scheduled attractions are dog adoption opportunities through the Chattooga County Animal Shelter, along with free rabies, DHPP and Bordetella vaccinations sponsored by HSNEGA in partnership with the shelter.

Other activities will include a dog photo booth, a kiddie pool cooling station, pup cups, dog products, arts and crafts, food vendors and grooming by Bishop’s Dog Grooming.

One of the day’s featured events will be the Pup Strut Pet Parade, beginning at noon along the East Washington Streetscape.

Participants can dress their dogs in costumes or simply bring them out to strut their stuff. Line-up begins at 11:50 a.m. beside the T Fay & Sue Hurley Community Development Center near the drive-through location. Dogs and their owners will be announced as they make their way down East Washington Street.

Dog Daze will also include a Dog & Owner Look-Alike Photo Contest. Photos can be submitted by email to slocklear@summervillega.org through 4 p.m. Friday, August 14. Entries can also be submitted at the Summerville Main Street booth during the event until 11 a.m. Saturday.

Winners will be announced and prizes awarded following the noon Pup Strut Parade.

Another highlight is expected around 1 p.m., when the Tennessee Valley Railroad Museum’s steam passenger train is scheduled to arrive. The historic Summerville Turntable is also expected to be in operation as part of the train’s visit.

Pet owners are reminded that dogs should be friendly with other animals and people. Owners are also responsible for cleaning up after their pets, with free dog waste bags available at the Main Street booth.
