Looking for a loyal companion with a gentle personality? Meet Brownie, the WZQZ Pet of the Week from the Chattooga County Animal Shelter.

Brownie is a male dog known for his sweet temperament and affectionate nature. Shelter staff describe him as having a “teddy bear personality” who loves attention, cuddles, and spending time with people. He is also friendly with other dogs, making him a great candidate for families with existing pets.

Those who have met Brownie say he is calm, loving, and eager to make new friends. Whether he’s enjoying a walk, relaxing with his favorite humans, or soaking up affection, Brownie is happiest when he’s around people.

Brownie is currently available for adoption through the Chattooga County Animal Shelter, located at 464 Red Oak Drive in Summerville. His adoption fee is just $25.

The Chattooga County Animal Shelter is now accepting applications for a part-time Shelter Assistant position.

According to the shelter, the position is ideal for someone who loves animals and is not afraid of hard work. Duties include cleaning kennels and shelter areas, feeding and caring for cats and dogs, laundry and general shelter upkeep, and helping maintain a clean and safe environment for the animals.

Applicants must be comfortable working with both cats and dogs, dependable, willing to perform physical cleaning duties, possess a positive attitude and strong work ethic, and be able to pass a drug test.

Hours and pay will be discussed during the interview process.

Those interested in applying have two options. Applications may be completed in person at the Chattooga County Animal Shelter during application hours of 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday. Applicants may also apply in person at the Chattooga County Commissioner’s Office between 7:30 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday.

Officials say the position offers an opportunity to make a difference in the lives of homeless animals while helping care for pets awaiting adoption and placement.

Free Animal Vaccine Clinic Today In Summerville

A free animal vaccine and microchipping clinic is happening today, Friday, May 1, for dogs and cats in Chattooga County.

The event will be held from 11:00 AM until 3:00 PM at Tractor Supply, 11788 Highway 27 in Summerville.

The clinic is sponsored by the Humane Society of Northeast Georgia in partnership with the Chattooga County Animal Shelter. Services include rabies vaccines for dogs and cats, DHPP vaccines for dogs, FVRCP vaccines for cats, and microchips.

Animal Control Director Charlie Long says all dogs should be on a leash, and all cats must be in a crate while attending the clinic.

Because of the event, the Chattooga County Animal Shelter will be closed today.
