Summerville Main Street is inviting dog lovers and their four-legged companions to downtown Summerville for Dog Daze on Saturday, August 15.
Dog lovers will want to mark their calendars for next Saturday, August 15, when Downtown Dog Daze returns to Summerville for a day dedicated to four-legged friends and the people who love them.
The event will be held from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. at the Summerville Train Depot and along East Washington Street.
Downtown Dog Daze will feature a variety of activities and services for dogs and their owners, including dog adoption opportunities through the Chattooga County Animal Shelter, a photo booth, dog grooming by Bishop’s Dog Grooming, a Pup Cup Station, vendors offering dog products, arts and crafts, food, and a kiddie pool cooling station sponsored by Mr. Pickles Dog Bakery.
Free rabies, DHPP and Bordetella vaccinations will also be offered, sponsored by HSNEGA in partnership with the Chattooga County Animal Shelter.
One of the highlights of the day will be the Pup Strut at noon.
Visitors can also look forward to the arrival of the Tennessee Valley Railroad Museum steam engine passenger train during the event.
Downtown Dog Daze is presented by the City of Summerville, Mr. Pickles Dog Bakery LLC and Bishop Grooming.
The Summerville Train Depot is located at 111 East Washington Street.
The Chattooga County Animal Shelter is looking for volunteers willing to donate their time and talents to help care for homeless animals and support shelter operations.
Shelter officials say they are currently seeking volunteers to assist with answering phones for short shifts throughout the week. Volunteers in this role help direct calls, answer questions from the public, and provide friendly customer service to visitors and callers.
The shelter is also looking for social media volunteers who enjoy photography, videography, and creating online content. Photos, videos, and social media posts play a vital role in helping adoptable animals gain visibility and connect with potential families.
Organizers say there is a volunteer opportunity for nearly everyone, whether helping behind a desk or behind a camera. Community members interested in making a difference are encouraged to get involved and support the shelter’s mission.

Shelter officials say donations can be dropped off Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday from 3 PM until 4 PM at the Chattooga County Animal Shelter located at 464 Red Oak Road in Summerville.

The Town of Trion will officially celebrate the opening of its new dog park today with a special ceremony at the Track Field Pavilion adjoining Simmons Street.
The ceremony is scheduled to begin at 11 AM.
Town officials say the project was inspired by the late Brinley A. Corbin, whose dream of a community dog park has now become a reality.
