Cub Scouts from Pack 38 recently experienced their first campout at Camp Sidney Dew, enjoying a weekend filled with outdoor adventures, teamwork and opportunities to build lasting friendships.
The camping trip gave Scouts an opportunity to experience the outdoors while learning new skills, participating in group activities and creating memories with fellow Scouts and family members.
The weekend began with Scouts setting up camp and preparing for a variety of activities designed to encourage cooperation, confidence and an appreciation for nature.
One of the highlights was gathering around the campfire to roast marshmallows and make s’mores, a favorite camping tradition.
Scouts also prepared their own walking tacos, adding a fun and interactive experience to mealtime.
Throughout the weekend, participants enjoyed outdoor games, including Barnyard Bedlam and flag football, providing opportunities for friendly competition and teamwork.
Another popular activity was a scavenger hunt bingo challenge, where Scouts and adults explored the campground while searching for items on their lists. The activity encouraged observation, problem-solving and cooperation.
Scouts also spent time fishing at Lake Goodyear, learning patience and enjoying the natural surroundings at Camp Sidney Dew.
Pack leaders said the weekend provided much more than entertainment, helping young participants develop confidence, independence and stronger friendships.
“This campout was about more than just fun. It was about building confidence, teamwork, and creating memories that our Cub Scouts will carry with them for years to come,” den leaders said. “Watching them explore the outdoors and enjoy new experiences made the weekend a huge success.”
The camping experience also gave parents and adult volunteers an opportunity to participate alongside the Scouts and help guide them through their first overnight outdoor adventure.
As the weekend concluded, Scouts returned home with new skills, stories to share and memories from their first campout.
Pack leaders hope the experience will encourage participants to continue exploring the outdoors and taking advantage of future Scouting activities.
Pack 38 is part of Scouting America’s Cub Scout program, which introduces younger children to outdoor recreation, teamwork, citizenship and leadership through age-appropriate activities.
