Chattooga County 4-H is inviting local young people and their families to learn more about opportunities to participate in SAFE Sports and judging teams during an upcoming open house.
The Chattooga County Chamber of Commerce will give local business and community members an opportunity to learn more about the work of the Boys & Girls Club of Chattooga during its September Lunch & Learn.
The event will be held Tuesday, September 15 at the Boys & Girls Club, located at 11570 U.S. Highway 27 in Summerville.
Rather than holding the monthly event at a traditional meeting location, Chamber members and other guests will have lunch at the club and then get a firsthand look at the facility and its programs.
Director Deb Stowe will lead a tour and talk about the work she and her staff are doing with young people in Chattooga County. The Chamber says the visit will provide an opportunity for participants to see the club in operation and learn more about its role in the community.
The public is invited, but reservations are required because lunch will be catered.
The cost is $12 for Chattooga County Chamber of Commerce members and $17 for non-members.
The Boys & Girls Club provides local young people with a supervised environment and programs designed to support education, personal development and positive activities outside regular school hours.
The September Lunch & Learn will give local residents and business leaders an opportunity not only to hear about those programs, but also to tour the facility and see where that work is taking place.
A local nonprofit organization is inviting students and families to learn more about a unique educational opportunity planned for 2027.
Dreamers Outreach, Inc. announced plans for an educational and inspirational trip to the Obama Presidential Library in June 2027. The organization says the trip is designed to expose young people to leadership, history, education, and service while encouraging them to pursue their goals and dreams.
According to the organization, 10 students in grades 8 through 12 will be selected to participate in the experience.
An informational meeting for interested students and parents is scheduled for August 8 at 2 p.m. at Kuzzins, located at 105 Hemlock Street in Summerville. Organizers will discuss trip details, expectations, and future planning efforts.
Dreamers Outreach is also seeking community support for the project. The organization is encouraging parents and volunteers interested in serving as chaperones, sponsors who would like to support a student, and community members willing to assist through donations and fundraising efforts to get involved.
Organization leaders say community support will be essential in making the educational trip a reality and creating a meaningful experience for participating students.
Young athletes in Chattooga County will have an opportunity to sharpen their basketball skills and have some fun on the court next month as the Red & Black Basketball Camp returns to Chattooga High School.
The two-day camp is scheduled for May 28th and 29th and will run each morning from 9 a.m. until noon. It is open to boys and girls in 1st through 4th grade, offering a chance for younger players to build fundamentals, play games, and develop confidence in a positive, energetic environment.
Organizers say the camp will focus on skill development, teamwork, and making the game enjoyable for all participants, regardless of experience level.
The registration fee is $20, and payment must be made by cash or check.

The event will take place at Chattooga High School and is expected to draw strong local participation as summer activities begin to ramp up.
Trion Football will host a youth football camp June 3, 4, and 5 at Sam R. McCain Stadium.
The camp is open to children ages 5 through 12 and will run each evening from 6:00 p.m. until 7:30 p.m.
Participants will receive skills, drills, and instruction from Trion coaches and players, giving young athletes a chance to learn fundamentals and improve their game.
The cost is $30 per camper, which includes a t-shirt. Payment and registration will be accepted the day of camp at the stadium. Cash or checks will be accepted, with checks made payable to Trion Football.
