Sloppy Floyd State Park Plans Fall Craft Program And Evening Nature Hike Saturday

James H. “Sloppy” Floyd State Park in Chattooga County has two fall activities planned for Saturday, November 7, including a craft program for families and an evening nature hike.

The first event, called “Unbe-Leaf-Able Craft & Chat,” begins at 11 AM. Participants will explore the world of leaves, learn about the natural environment and create their own fall-themed snow globes.

Those attending are encouraged to bring a small container holding less than 10 ounces, although containers will also be provided. The activity costs $3 per person, and registration is required.

Later Saturday, park rangers will lead a Fall Foliage Nature Hike around the Lower Lake Trail beginning at 6 PM. Participants will have an opportunity to enjoy the changing leaves and sunset while learning more about the park’s natural surroundings.

Hikers should bring a flashlight, comfortable walking shoes and water. The group will meet at the park office, and advance registration is preferred.

The hike also costs $3 per person. A $10 park parking pass is required for both activities.

The City of Summerville is preparing for a full day of fall activities as the Summerville Harvest Festival returns Saturday, November 7, at Dowdy Park.

The festival will take place from 9 AM until 5 PM and will feature arts and crafts, food vendors, baked goods and specialty loaded drinks.

The event will provide an opportunity for residents and visitors to enjoy a day of shopping, food and seasonal activities in downtown Summerville.

Organizers are inviting vendors to participate in the festival, with online registration available at www.summervillerec.org.

There will be no vendor registration charge for participants in the 2026 Sum Nelly event, according to the festival announcement.

The Summerville Harvest Festival is scheduled for Saturday, November 7, from 9 AM until 5 PM at Dowdy Park in Summerville.

James H. “Sloppy” Floyd State Park will celebrate Girl Scouts Love State Parks Day with a special Hiking 101 program on Saturday, September 12.

The program begins at 2:30 PM, with participants meeting in front of the park office.

Park rangers will lead a guided hike along the Lower Lake Trail, teaching participants some of the basics of hiking. The program will cover how to safely hike trails, what hikers should pack and how to prepare for an emergency while enjoying the outdoors.

Organizers say the program is open to all ages and is designed for people who are new to hiking as well as those who simply want to spend some time outdoors and learn more about safely navigating trails.

The Hiking 101 program itself is free, although a $10 park pass is required.

Anyone interested in participating is asked to register by calling the James H. “Sloppy” Floyd State Park office at 706-857-0826.
