The Chattooga County Health Department will host a special Breast Cancer Awareness event this Friday, October 16, as part of activities recognizing October as Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

The event will take place from 8 a.m. until 1 p.m. at the Chattooga County Health Department, located at 60 Farrar Drive in Summerville.

Attendees will have access to a variety of resources and services, including breast exams for those who choose to receive one, assistance with mammogram paperwork and information about scheduling a mammogram.

The event will also feature goody bags, a limited number of breast cancer awareness T-shirts and light refreshments.

Breast Cancer Awareness Month is observed each October to encourage awareness of the disease and the importance of regular screenings and early detection.

Health officials encourage area residents to take advantage of the opportunity to learn more about breast health and available screening resources.
