Chattooga County is in for an extended stretch of dry, sunny weather over the coming week, with comfortable afternoon temperatures and some of the chilliest overnight readings of the fall season. The National Weather Service says high pressure will dominate the weather pattern across Northwest Georgia, keeping rain chances extremely low through at least Thursday.

Sunday will bring plenty of sunshine, with a high temperature near 67 degrees. Northerly winds around 5 miles per hour will become calm during the morning. Clear skies Sunday night will allow temperatures to fall to around 35 degrees, making for a chilly start to the new workweek.

Monday will be sunny and a little warmer, with afternoon temperatures climbing to around 71 degrees. Mostly clear skies Monday night will bring another cool evening, with temperatures dropping to around 38 degrees.

The dry weather continues Tuesday, with mostly sunny skies and another high near 71. Tuesday night will be mostly clear, with a low around 41 degrees.

Veterans Day on Wednesday is shaping up to be another good day for outdoor activities and ceremonies across Chattooga County. The forecast calls for mostly sunny skies and a high near 70 degrees, with partly cloudy skies Wednesday night and a low around 42.

Temperatures will begin trending a little cooler toward the end of the week. Thursday will be mostly sunny with a high near 65, followed by mostly clear skies and a low around 37 Thursday night. Friday is expected to be sunny, with afternoon temperatures reaching only around 59 degrees.

According to the National Weather Service forecast discussion, a large area of dry air moving into the Southeast will help suppress cloud development and precipitation through the first part of the week. A weak weather disturbance approaching the region around Tuesday could bring some additional clouds by midweek, but forecasters do not expect it to produce significant rainfall.

The National Weather Service says precipitation probabilities will remain below 10 percent across much of northern and central Georgia through early next week, with rain chances remaining near zero through at least Thursday.

Forecasters are also watching another weather disturbance that could approach the Southeast toward the end of next week. However, there is considerable uncertainty about whether that system will develop enough to bring moisture northward from the Gulf and produce rainfall.

For now, the overall forecast favors an extended period of quiet fall weather, with daytime highs generally in the 60s and lower 70s and overnight lows in the 30s and lower 40s.

The cooler mornings will be especially noticeable in rural and low-lying areas of Chattooga County, where temperatures can fall quickly under clear skies and calm winds. While the current forecast does not call for widespread freezing temperatures, residents will notice a definite chill during the early morning hours.

With no significant rainfall expected for several days, the coming week should provide favorable weather for outdoor work, Veterans Day observances and other community activities throughout Northwest Georgia.
