A Rossville man racked up charge after charge during a high-speed chase that started early Sunday morning near the Lafayette Walmart.
According to troopers, 38 year old James Robert Taylor was pulled over on Highway 27, for Improper Tag, shortly after 9:30am.
Taylor fled the scene and that pursuit began on Georgia Highway 136, where after traveling about eight miles, he turned onto Camp Road – where a PIT maneuver was used to being his Ford Contour to a stop near the intersection of Old Bethel Road and Taylor-Broome Road.
Taylor bailed out and fled into a nearby wooded area being found and taken into custody in less than two hours.
While being booked into jail officers found that Taylor had methamphetamine hidden in the waistband of his pants.
Taylor was already wanted on a felony probation violation for possession of meth and after the pursuit he was charged with fleeing or attempting to elude, the possession of meth, and three counts of speeding, occurring on three separate highways; in addition to obstruction of an officer, driving on the wrong side of the road, failure to obey traffic control devices, failure to maintain lane (weaving), crossing a guard line with drugs, passing in a no-passing zone, improper turn, criminal trespass, driving while declared a habitual violator, and with failure to stop at a stop sign.

A two year-old girl died after falling into a pond in Cedartown over the weekend.
Reports said that Abigail Marie Wilson was taken to an Atlanta hospital after she was found unresponsive in her backyard garden pond on Saturday. Redmond EMS first rushed her to the Polk Medical Center emergency room, where she was stabilized, then flown to Egleston Children’s Hospital in Atlanta.
Authorities said the child’s condition worsened through the evening until she died at 11:09 pm. The child’s body was taken to the GBI Crime Lab for an autopsy.
An investigation into the death is being conducted; Cedartown Police Chief Jamie Newsome did say that there appeared to be no evidence of any criminal wrongdoing.
